East Orange had its origins in Connecticut's New Haven Colony. In 1666, a group of 30 of New Haven's families traveled by water to found "a town on the Passayak" River. They arrived on territory now encompassing Newark, the Oranges, and several other municipalities. We just designated a developer for a project commonly known as 20/30 Evergreen Street. The site has been vacant for nearly two decades. A developer has plans to bring mixed-use retail and residential to the site – which is symbolic of what’s happening throughout our city.”
