FAQs:

What is a Health and Wellness Speaker?

Health and wellness speakers seek to cultivate a person's ultimate well-being and speak on subjects like mental health, stress management, mindfulness, and more.

What is a Mental Health Speaker?

A mental health speaker is a type of public speaker who specializes in a specific mental health topic, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, suicide prevention, resilience, or workplace mental health.

What is a Motivational Speaker?

A motivational speaker is a speaker who makes speeches intended to motivate or inspire an audience. Such speakers may attempt to challenge or transform their audiences. The speech itself is popularly known as a pep talk. Motivational speakers can deliver speeches at schools, colleges, places of worship, companies, corporations, government agencies, conferences, trade shows, summits, community organizations, and similar environments.

What is a Resilience Speaker?

A resilience speaker is a professional speaker who specializes in the topic of resilience. Oxford Languages defines resilience as the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties. Whether or not it’s explicitly stated in the information about a particular speaker, most mental health speakers can be classified as resilience speakers.

What is a Health and Lifestyle Speaker?

The best health and lifestyle speakers blend two major areas of expertise. First, they have proven experience in areas such as health, fitness, nutrition, personal development, and related fields. Second, seasoned speakers, know how to convey their knowledge to corporate teams in a way that is engaging and transformative.

This blend of expertise is rare, creating a high demand for the best health and lifestyle speakers. Proven in their ability to educate audiences, they deliver their speeches at conferences, seminars, and workshops either in person or through virtual addresses. In each case, they help others develop positive mindsets. They enhance your work culture through improved wellness, helping you skyrocket your productivity.

Why are Motivational Speakers Important?

Motivational speakers are important because they help motivate people to live their best life. Those who are struggling with physical and mental health issues find comfort in listening to individuals who have overcome challenges. It gives them hope that they too can find happiness and success in life.

Do Motivational Speakers Actually Help People?

Motivational speaking can improve mental health and well-being by giving individuals the inspiration and tools to achieve their goals. By listening to stories of resilience and overcoming adversity, individuals can feel empowered and motivated to take positive steps toward their goals. This can lead to increased feelings of self-efficacy and confidence, critical components of mental well-being. Attending motivational speaking events can also provide individuals with a sense of community and support, benefiting those struggling with isolation or loneliness. Motivational speaking can help individuals develop a more positive mindset and outlook on life, improving overall mood and reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.

What is the Difference Between a Speaker and a Keynote Speaker?

A speaker delivers a presentation or talks on a specific topic. In contrast, a keynote speaker is a prominent or influential speaker who sets the tone for an event, conference, or seminar. Keynote speakers are often invited to speak at the beginning of an event to inspire, motivate, and engage the audience. Their speeches are typically longer and more comprehensive than those of regular speakers.

How Long Do Motivational Speakers Speak?

As a general rule, a keynote speech typically lasts between 30 to 60 minutes. However, it’s essential to consider the factors mentioned above to customize the duration to your specific event and audience needs.

Is There a Difference Between a Public Speaker and a Motivational Speaker?

The big difference between public speakers and motivational speakers is what they aim to get out of their oratory. Motivational speakers tend to mostly focus on inspiring people and encouraging them to try to do or accomplish something. Public speakers are usually more focused on imparting practical information.

It’s also important to acknowledge that motivational speakers are technically a subcategory of public speakers, in the same way that college lecturers are also technically a subcategory of public speakers. In other words, all motivational speakers are also public speakers, but not all public speakers are motivational speakers.

What is the Average Cost of a Motivational Speaker?

Entry-level professional speakers who are at the start of their careers might be somewhere in the $2500 to $3000 range. Speakers who charge less than that might have full-time jobs (besides speaking professionally) and have fewer credentials and experience. (You might find a speaker in the lower price ranges that does well for you… but generally speaking, groups that require excellence will have to pay more.) Fee structures for more experienced and professional motivational speakers generally range from about $6,000 to $20,000 but keep in mind there are tons of exceptions. Celebrity motivational speakers’ fee structures might range anywhere from $35,000 to $235,000.

What is Health and Wellness?

People often use the terms health and wellness interchangeably. Although a person cannot have one and not the other, they are two different concepts that are quite variable, and their meanings are different. World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (illness).” WHO defines wellness as “the optimal state of health of individuals and groups,” and wellness is expressed as “a positive approach to living.” The primary difference between health and wellness is that health is the goal and wellness is the active process of achieving it. You truly cannot have health without first achieving wellness. Wellness has a direct influence on overall health, which is essential for living a robust, happy, and fulfilled life.

6 Dimensions of Wellness

Wellness is more than just physical health; it is holistic and multidimensional. It comprises six dimensions that include physical, intellectual, emotional, environmental, social, and spiritual wellness.

1. Physical: Physical wellness increases physical fitness—by being physically fit, a person would have an enhanced ability to prevent illness and diseases. Exercise stimulates a healthy mind and body. A sedentary lifestyle can be avoided by increasing physical activity in everyday life such as walking, cycling, walking the dog, taking the steps, and hiking. Having good nutrition, eating a balanced diet, drinking sufficient water (eight glasses per day), and getting adequate sleep promotes a person’s physical wellness.

2. Intellectual: Mental exercise and engagement through learning, problem-solving, and creativity support intellectual wellness and promote a better attitude. People who learn new things and challenge their minds can avoid mental health problems.

3. Emotional: A person with emotional wellness can deal with stressful situations. A person who is aware of their feelings has good self-esteem, and has empathy toward others’ feelings would have emotional wellness.

4. Environmental: Awareness of the role we play in improving our natural environment rather than denigrating it and maintaining and living in a healthy physical environment free of hazards promotes wellness.

5. Social: Social circles and support networks are invaluable to the overall well-being of a person. Relating, interacting, and contributing to a community, establishing good interpersonal relations, and maintaining long-term relationships with family and friends keep a person happier and healthier.

6. Spiritual: Spiritual wellness does not imply the religion or faith of a person, but the search for meaning and purpose of human existence. Developing compassion, caring, forgiving, and having a purpose in life help in spiritual wellness. This can be achieved through meditation, volunteer work, spending time in nature, etc.

On one end, patients with poor health engage the medical fraternity to treat illnesses. On the other end, people focus proactively on prevention and maximize their vitality. They adopt lifestyles that improve health, prevent disease, and enhance their quality of life and a sense of well-being. Wellness is proactive, preventive, and driven by self-responsibility for healthy living.

Different Kinds of Mental Health Public Speakers

1. Mental Health Keynote Speakers

These mental health speakers frequently take center stage at gatherings like conferences or events and give engaging speeches that set the tone for the audience. Proficient in various mental health topics, they have a knack for engaging big groups of people. A variety of mental health subjects are covered in their lectures, along with observations, data, anecdotes, and helpful guidance. Mental health keynote speakers use their knowledge and charisma to make a big impression, whether they’re addressing a large audience of business executives, residents at a community meeting, or students.

2. Mental Health Innovative Speakers

These individuals offer a progressive viewpoint to the conversation around mental health. Their area of expertise lies in the most recent developments in mental health research, technology, and therapy. Speakers on mental health innovation examine novel approaches, state-of-the-art treatments, and developing patterns in the mental health industry.

3. Personal Experience Speakers

People in this category talk about their own experiences dealing with mental health challenges. They share stories about the difficulties they faced, and how they stayed strong, got better, and sought help when needed. They focus on being resilient and advocate on recovering from tough times while also explaining why asking for support is important.

4. Motivational Speakers

In addition to inspiring, motivational speakers address mental wellness in their speeches. They offer guidance on managing stressful circumstances and averting mental health issues. They discuss methods for maintaining optimism and drive in daily life, highlighting the significance of caring for our mental health.

5. Clinical Experts

Psychologists, counselors, and psychiatrists are some examples of clinical mental health experts. They share insights into the functioning of the mind by sharing their in-depth understanding of mental health. They also recommend treatment options and offer guidance on handling mental health problems. These presenters give us an overview of the clinical understanding of mental health.

Motivational Speaker Skills

The path to becoming a motivational speaker takes time and practice. Motivational speakers have certain skills that make them successful, and you may realize that your skills need a bit of refinement. As you build your experience speaking to large groups, you'll develop these top skills that motivational speakers possess:

- Leadership

- Communication

- Confidence

- Clear articulation

- Engaging presentation

- Storytelling

- Adaptability

- Passion

- Authenticity

- Empathy

- Time management

Motivational speakers learn over time how to gauge the interest of their audience and adapt to the feedback they receive. They become more confident in their delivery and storytelling abilities, and they learn how to manage the time they're given onstage by keeping their messages concise.

The Benefits of Motivational Speakers

UPGRADE YOUR OUTLOOK ON LIFE OR A PARTICULAR SUBJECT

Beginning a task with a negative outlook is already setting yourself up for failure. Motivational Speakers help to show you the positives instead of focusing on the negatives, enabling you to tackle a task in new ways.

1. NEW-FOUND CONFIDENCE

Lack of confidence can be a big problem in the workplace. If you have a big task to complete and you aren’t feeling up to the challenge, Motivational Speakers can help inspire you to take action and believe in yourself.

2. BETTER MENTAL HEALTH

Having a positive outlook can be hard, but a negative mindset can be harmful to your mental health. A Motivational Speaker can show you how to live a mentally healthy life and help to identify the ways that you may be neglecting yourself. Being in the best mental mindset will allow you to do a better job at work.

3. LEARN FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN THERE BEFORE

Whilst everyone’s experiences are unique, there are people out there who have experienced what you are experiencing right now. Those same people have overcome them and can offer the reassurance you need. Motivational Speakers give you an insight into how they overcame their obstacles, allowing you to learn and apply their experience to your own life.

4. RELATE TO THE SPEAKER

Learning from people who have lived similar experiences to you is beneficial. It helps to know that there are others in the same situation. Seeing someone who was stuck in the same rut, and got themselves out of it, gives people the hope and inspiration that they can do it too.

5. DISCOVER A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE

Learning how other people view the world can be eye-opening for people who tend to have limited perspectives, struggle to connect with other people, and find it difficult to think in different ways. It can be very inspiring to listen to someone else’s outlook on life and try to adapt it to your own.

4 Components of a Motivational Speech

Here are the 4 components of a motivational speech.

1. Relationship – Create a relationship with the audience as soon as possible. You can do this by telling a story about yourself that helps people know and relate to you. Be real, connect with people, and smile.

2. Competence – Communicate your confidence in the audience’s ability to be successful in their goals and actions. Don’t stop here though. If you are communicating a course of action, a goal, or persuading the group to make a change, you might want to utilize a story of how others have succeeded in a similar situation. Utilize stories of other people similar to those in your audience including regular people who overcame obstacles, worked hard, and succeeded in reaching a goal.

3. Meaningfulness – Help the audience connect their values with the benefits of the action you are trying to move your audience towards. One of the best ways to do this is to help people envision an outcome or achievement that has a purpose. Help people paint a picture of themselves acting with purpose and achieving meaningful outcomes.

4. Energy – The last thing you want to be is boring. Nobody is inspired or motivated by someone with great content, yet has little passion or energy for the information being presented. Some people in your audience already possess their own positive and high energy levels, but others don’t. From the moment you begin interacting with your audience (even before the speech starts), bring them upbeat energy. Refuse to use negative, sad, or depressing stories. Utilize voice modulation, facial expressions (smiling, raising eyebrows), eye contact, gesturing, and open body movement to allow people to both hear and see your passion and energy. This kind of energy is engaging and contagious.

Motivational speakers intentionally utilize these proven components to engage, motivate, and inspire their audiences. Implementing these components into your speeches and presentations can also help you move your audience to a higher motivational state.

Where to Find Motivational and Inspirational Speakers

And the type of speaker you choose needs to align with what kind of event it is. Both inspirational and motivational speakers are often found at:

1. Corporate events: Speakers can motivate and inspire employees to reach their full potential and increase company productivity.

2. Leadership conferences: Speakers provide guidance and inspire attendees to become exceptional leaders.

3. Professional development workshops: Inspirational and motivational speakers share their experiences and insights to help attendees develop their skills to achieve their goals.

4. Team building activities: Speakers facilitate team building activities and motivate team members to collaborate and work together more effectively.

5. Sales training sessions: Speakers provide sales teams with the motivation and techniques they need to achieve their sales goals.

6. Mental health awareness events: By sharing their stories of overcoming challenges, speakers can inspire others to own their mental health and resilience.

9 Strategies to Find Great Health and Wellness Speakers

Are you having trouble finding speakers for your events? Audiences want someone credible and trustworthy to relay the information. Finding these types of speakers can be a daunting task with the amount of information out there. Speakers can be representatives of your event and association and can be the most vital part of your event. These are some tips on how to find some great speakers for your next event.

1. Dive into social media

Social media is a tool for your association that can help you find and potentially hire speakers. If you have a speaker in mind, you may be able to find videos of prior speeches on YouTube. You can also check out TED Talk videos on YouTube and discover new speakers through this method. Other social media like LinkedIn can also help in the search, providing information on their prior experience and work history. These resources can provide insight into a speaker’s expertise in a topic and into their performance. Once you find a speaker you’re interested in, you can follow up with a more thorough search on the internet. Check out their other platforms and reviews to see if they’re reliable and really up to par.

2. Use speaker websites

Some organizations specialize in training professional speakers and connecting you with those who specialize in public speaking. Speaker’s websites are great resources for booking a speaker for your event. Users can search for a specific topic and will be provided with potential speakers along with their past work. There you can also see past events they have participated in and what they specialize in.

3. Pay attention to networking and referrals

Although online resources can be very helpful in your search for an event speaker, don’t forget about doing it the old-fashioned way. Reach out to your network. If you’re having trouble finding a speaker, don’t ignore the connections you’ve already made! These connections can serve as an invaluable resource when planning your next event. Also, don’t be afraid to ask friends and colleagues for recommendations. You never know where you’ll find your next speaker.

You can also cross-reference network recommendations with your research. It doesn’t hurt to double-check their experience and credentials with an online search. This being said, you can combine the strategies on this list to ensure you’ve found the best speaker possible. Remember that whoever you choose as a speaker can be representative of your association as a whole. Don’t be afraid to do your research!

4. See how they interact with their audience

What is your event about? Who is your audience? Some audiences may react better to speakers who engage with the crowd while others may not. Some speakers may also not choose to stay after their speech to talk to the audience. These factors can influence how you may want the speaker to interact with your audience. The best speakers will have real-life examples of failures and successes that the audience will be able to relate to. You can gain more attention and membership for your association depending on how your speaker performs so keep these questions in mind!

5. Reach out to your local Chamber of Commerce

Think of what your association has to offer to your members. Do your goals and mission align with something related to business in any way? If so, consider reaching out to your local Chamber of Commerce. Many business owners join these organizations to increase visibility for their brand or area of business. Chambers of Commerce bring these businesses together and often host events for local businesses. Speakers they have hosted previously can have expertise in a topic that relates to your association’s interests. They could help provide contact information for past speakers who did a great job.

6. Ask what your audience wants to see

What does your audience want to get at your event? What do they want to see more of at your events? Creating surveys can facilitate communicating with your audience and obtain the information you need. Participating in these forums, not only gives you a chance to learn and have questions answered but also helps you identify a potential speaker for your upcoming event. Your attendees could also know or recommend people who would be great event speakers. This could later be implemented in your event marketing strategy to show potential attendees that the organizers are interested in their attendees' recommendations and wants. Designing these forms can be easily done with websites such as Typeform and Survey Monkey.

7. Does their content connect with the goals of the event?

While having an amazing and entertaining speaker is great for keeping the audience interested, are you still able to get your message across? The best type of speaker will ask you what a successful night looks like. Whether it be certain topics they should mention or how to keep the audience engaged. Your speakers need to be able to incorporate your event's goal into their speeches to make your event successful. Aligning those goals and tactics is the best way to have a successful event. Speakers should be able to deliver your message in a way that is unique to them and your audience won’t find elsewhere.

8. Think about events in the past that you have attended

While events provide an educational experience for attendees, it also opens many networking opportunities that can benefit your association. Other event planners probably put in a lot of work to find good speakers. Take advantage of their hard work for yourself and your upcoming event. If you’ve attended events in the past, you can attest to a speaker’s ability firsthand. It also helps if you have established a connection with a potential speaker beforehand. With this in mind, as you continue to go to events, try to make connections with speakers since they can help you out with your future events.

9. Who’s already influential in your field?

Experience and expertise can be great things to use to find a great speaker, but influence can be another quality to base speaker selection on. Take a look at your attendee lists, are there any names who have attended your events every year? Find those who attended your events and are very active and influential on social media, these people can often be great speakers. Try approaching them, they might be too shy to put themselves forward but love your event and would like to share their experience with your audience. You can also try platforms such as Klout and PeerIndex + Brandwatch to help you find influential people on specific topics. Finding someone passionate about the topic will often have the potential to attract more attendees to your event.

Use these tips to help you find a great speaker for your next event! As mentioned previously, using these tips in combination with one another can help you find the best speaker possible for your event, so don’t hesitate to do so. You can accomplish a lot for your event and association as a whole with a great speaker. With these tips, you should be able to find one that suits you and your member’s needs.
