The (historic) town of Pikesville, incorporated in August 1818, in Barren County, Kentucky, was named for Zebulon Pike, also. How did Pikesville, MD get its name?
Pikesville area was inhabited by the Piscataway and Nentego/ Nanticoke tribes. A trail once used by Native American tribes was converted into a patrol road and defensive perimeter for rangers at Fort Garrison (built-in 1695) to protect against attacks from Native Americans. This road would be referred to as Old Court Road. Pikesville, MD was founded/ settled in 1770 and was later named after General Zebulon Pike, an American Explorer during the early 1800s.
