According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.2 square miles (21.2 km2), of which 8.0 square miles (20.7 km2) is land and 0.23 square miles (0.6 km2), or 2.60%, is water. The city is divided into many subdivisions. Notable ones include the communities of West 30s, West 20s, Ozone, River Forest, Covington Point, Downtown Covington, as well as Barkley Parc.
