Logansport was settled c. 1826 and named after a Shawnee warrior named James Logan, better known as "Captain Logan," who served as a scout for U.S. forces in the surrounding area during the War of 1812.
As of the 2010 census, there were 18,396 people, 6,877 households, and 4,272 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,102.4 inhabitants per square mile (811.7/km2). There were 7,822 housing units at an average density of 893.9 per square mile (345.1/km2).
