Golden Gate's boundaries coincide with a 2 by 2 miles (3.2 by 3.2 km) square of significantly higher density development than surrounding areas. The population was 25,321 as recorded in the 2020 census, up from 23,961 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Naples–Marco Island Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Golden Gate is located in western Collier County at 26°11′7″N 81°42′13″W, 8 miles (13 km) northeast of Naples.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.1 square miles (10.6 km²), of which 3.9 square miles (10.1 km²) is land and 0.19 square miles (0.5 km²), or 5.08%, is water.
