The neighborhood is composed mostly of brick and brownstone three-story townhouses built during the mid-to-late 19th century. Many streets, including Green Street and Spring Garden Street, include "terraced" setups, which include a small gardened plot, often raised, in front of the house. The Street now known as Eighth Street (then called Garden Street) ran through the center of the district, and the street now called Darien, formally Garden Street, then called Spring Street, ran from Vine to Buttonwood.
