South Whitehall Township is a township in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. The township's population was 19,180 at the 2010 census. It is a suburb of Allentown and is part of the Lehigh Valley, which had a population of 861,899 and was the 68th-most populous metropolitan area in the U.S. as of the 2020 census.
South Whitehall Township borders Allentown to its east and is 59.3 miles (95.4 km) northwest of Philadelphia and 94.5 miles (152.1 km) west of New York City. The Lehigh Valley interchange of the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom are both located in the township.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 17.3 square miles (44.7 km2), of which 17.1 square miles (44.2 km2) are land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km2), or 0.98%, is water. The township is located immediately west of Allentown and approximately 55 miles (89 km) northwest of Philadelphia. It is drained by Jordan Creek and Little Lehigh Creek into the Lehigh River.
