Having learned and practiced Tai Chi as a young man, I recently renewed my study and have been practicing daily for four years. Doctor of Chinese Energetic Medicine, Buddhist Lama, Christian Mystical Priest, Former Chairman of the Board of two regulated financial services companies in the US and Canada and Fortune 100 senior executive
I have 40 years of energy arts experience, including a Doctorate in Chinese Energetic Medicine and ordination as a Buddhist Lama and Christian Mystical Priest . My experience also includes Tai Chi, Reiki (Levels 1 and 2 certified), yoga and meditation.
I have been passionate about teaching and applying Qi Gong to improve the wellbeing of my clients -- particularly those who otherwise could not afford access to the practice.
In addition to my online classes, I teach qi gong at 4 homeless shelters in California and Colorado and the Women's Cancer Resource Center in Oakland, CA. I donate 100% of my fees to a homeless shelter, www.thefamilytree.org, in Denver, CO.
I have been fortunate to have been trained directly for over 5 years by the father of Qi Gong in the West, Prof. Jerry Alan Johnson, who has published numerous textbooks on medical Qi Gong based on a lifetime of training with masters around the world. Our direct lineage dates back 1,800 years in the Mao-Shan Daoist Temple in China, bringing sophisticated and secret techniques which are rarely known even in China.
Coming from a traditional legal and corporate background, I have been astounded by the unheralded power of this branch of Qi Gong to affect the physical and energetic body for the better. And I am excited that the US Veterans Administration, US National Institutes of Health, and other leading institutions in the US have begun to recognize formally the benefits of Qi Gong.
I look forward to sharing my passion and expertise with my students and clients! Len
Welcome.
I'm a retired U.S. Army officer and former newspaper editor who embarked on my journey into Tai Chi while still in active service. Although my initial interest was piqued during my military days, my pursuit of Tai Chi was temporarily sidelined by time constraints and professional responsibilities, only to be reignited once I retired.
With more than 2,000 hours of teaching experience, I hold the esteemed title of Certified Level 3 instructor accredited by the ATCQA. Furthermore, I am currently undergoing training as a Holden Qigong Teacher-In-Training and have the privilege of serving as a Master Trainer under the guidance of Grand Master Dennis Kelly at Defy Aging, Inc.
As a veteran, my commitment to Tai Chi and Qigong deepened in 2020 when I initiated my certification process with the American Tai Chi and Qigong Association (ATCQA). During this journey, I collaborated with like-minded volunteer instructors at the James A. Haley VA Hospital.
Since 2022, I've been sharing my expertise in Tai Chi and Qigong through online instruction for Sofia Health, contributing to the well-being of a diverse audience. Don't miss the opportunity to explore these practices through Sofia Prime's remarkable subscription platform – it's truly a transformative experience.

Willoughby is in an interesting geographical area. To the west is Cleveland, allowing for access to big businesses and a high neighboring population density. It is also close to more rural parts of northeast Ohio such as Waite Hill and Kirtland, two villages in Lake County Ohio with some of the highest residential values. It also has access to Mentor Ave, a long stretch of mostly commercial buildings spanning alongside the coast of Lake Erie.
Willoughby's first permanent settler was David Abbott in 1798, who operated a gristmill. Abbott and his family were said to have had close relations with a band of Indians along the banks of the local river, which the Indians called the "Sha-ga-rin" meaning "Clear Water." This river was later called the Chagrin River, though the origin of the name remains in dispute. In 1835, the village was permanently named "Willoughby" in honor of Westel Willoughby, Jr., a public health official whom the founders of a short-lived Medical College based in the city, hoped to attract to the area. Many historical buildings from this period survive to this date, affording the downtown Willoughby area some outstanding specimens of 19th-century architecture.
In World War I, the U.S. Army chose Willoughby as the site for a chemical weapons plant producing lewisite. Over time, Willoughby sent citizens into every major U.S. military conflict. Several memorials and historical relics are displayed in West Point Park, the center of downtown Willoughby, to honor those who have served. Downtown Willoughby is home to several small businesses, coffee shops, and pubs which makes for a nice nightlife "feel" and provides a sense of community. Willoughby is the only town in America that has belonged, at one time or another, to six counties (Washington, Jefferson, Trumbull, Geauga, Cuyahoga, and Lake).
Health and wellness are paramount in Willoughby, with the city offering various amenities and services to support the well-being of its residents.
