I've worked with teens as a teacher in middle school, in high school, a high school librarian, and now as a life coach. The reason for my commitment to teens is simple - I really like them. I earned an MEd. in. Secondary English Education and am a Certified Life Coach for Young People through Youth Coaching Institute (YCI). At home, I have raised three of my own teens, now 23, 19, and 17. My story: I lived the first thirty years of my life, as many of us do, wanting to make my parents proud, wanting friends to like me, and wanting to fit in according to all societal norms. The result: a law degree, a high paying lawyer job, boredom and a feeling of "Meh" about my life. Hello Saturn return.
I was Julia Roberts in Runaway Bride who did not know what kind of eggs I liked (terrible reference, but go with me). I went on a self discover journey. I practiced tuning into my intuition. I learned about subconscious reprogramming, inner child and shadow work, I tried meditation for the first time. I took courses in Chinese energy healing, mediumship, and integrated energy therapy. I studied the Akashic Records, talked to my spirit guides, and maybe sometimes just talked to myself. Then I went deep down the Human Design rabbit hole and fell out the other side.
I still do not have the answers to how the universe works, but I feel a bit better. And I developed so many self discovery tools and felt a calling to share them — with you maybe.
I now offer spiritual guidance counseling and human design readings. Warning: a lot of the spiritual stuff falls into the woo woo, airy fairy camp. Native Americans had no settlement in the area but in the northwest corner of section 11 established a graveyard. The graveyard was found when the railroad came through. On March 9, 1833, Grand Blanc Township was organized as a multi-survey township area including the current Genesee Township. The township's earliest settlers, Luman Beach and Addison Stewart, came in 1833 in the area of Geneseeville. In September 1835, Sherman Stanley from Mount Morris, New York, started the Stanley settlement at the corners of sections 8, 9, 16, and 17 (now the intersection of Bray and Stanley Roads). In addition, several other families from that same city joined him there by 1838. A lumber mill was built with a dam in 1834 on Kearsley Creek 1650 feet from the Flint River. This was followed by a second and third mills on Kearlsey in 1836 and 1837.
At Geneseeville, a fourth mill was built on the Flint River in Geneseeville at the west side of section 11. Lot Clark and Stephen Warren, the mill builders, also got a charter granting them to build a dam for the mill. Later owners also built a companion grist mill in 1847.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 30.4 square miles (79 km2), of which 29.4 square miles (76 km2) is land and 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2) (3.26%) is water. The main streams of water are Flint River, Kearsley Creek, and Butternut Creek. Lesser streams include Stanley Creek and Bray Brook.
