FAQs
Q: Is this service only for people who are currently in a relationship?
A: No. These sessions can also be helpful if you are dating, between relationships, or trying to understand patterns that keep showing up in your relationships.
Q: Can I come to therapy about my relationship even if my partner refuses to attend?
A: Yes. You can make meaningful changes in how you communicate, set boundaries, respond to conflict, and make relationship decisions even when your partner is not participating in therapy.
Q: Can you help me decide whether to stay in or leave my relationship?
A: We can explore the concerns, needs, values, and patterns affecting your decision. My role is to help you think clearly about your situation rather than make the decision for you.
Q: Can these sessions help me with dating and finding a healthier relationship?
A: Yes. We can look at how you choose partners, communicate needs, recognize compatibility, establish boundaries, and build stronger connections as a relationship develops.
Q: What if I keep having the same problems in different relationships?
A: Repeating patterns are a common reason people seek individual relationship therapy. We can examine what happens in those situations and identify changes you can make in your own responses and choices.
Q: Will you tell me whether my partner is the problem?
A: Rather than assigning blame, we’ll focus on understanding what is happening in the relationship, what you can control, and what changes may help you move forward.
Q: Can my partner join a session later?
A: Possibly, but that should be discussed beforehand. Individual therapy and couples therapy have different expectations and boundaries, so we would decide together whether including your partner is clinically appropriate.
Q: What happens in the first session?
A: We’ll talk about the relationship concerns bringing you in, what you have already tried, patterns you have noticed, and what you would like to be different.
Q: How long are sessions?
A: Standard individual sessions are 50 minutes unless another session length has been arranged.
