Several efforts have been made to incorporate Moss Bluff, but at present the community is unincorporated.

Moss Bluff is located at 30°18′36″N 93°12′17″W (30.310003, -93.204753). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 15.8 square miles (40.9 km²), of which 15.2 square miles (39.4 km²) is land and 0.6 square miles (1.6 km²) (3.98%) is water. Moss Bluff is intersected by U.S. Highway 171 and Louisiana Highway 378.
