Hartselle is the second largest city in Morgan County, Alabama, United States, 13 miles (21 km) south of Decatur. It is part of the Decatur Metropolitan Area and the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area.
As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 15,455. Hartselle was founded in 1869 with the arrival of the South and North Alabama Railroad. It takes its name from George Hartselle, one of the railroad's owners. The post office opened in 1873. It was formally incorporated on March 1, 1875. Most of the oldest buildings were destroyed by a disastrous fire in 1916.

What is Hartselle, AL is known for?
The Community's greatest claim to fame, or infamy, came in the early morning hours of March 15, 1926. Fifteen dastardly criminals looted the Bank of Hartselle. That morning, eight blasts of nitroglycerin rocked the sleeping city. The town was held captive for almost four hours while thieves stripped the bank of all its cash gold and some silver coins. The robbers arrived in town about 1 am and first went to the telephone exchange, using a hand saw to cut the three cables linking Hartselle with the outside world.

Hartselle was an agricultural area and businesses offering services related to agriculture soon sprang up around the railroad depot which was located on what is now Railroad Street.
