The Saginaw Trail was an important land trail route for indigenous peoples that ran from Saginaw Bay in Michigan to the Detroit River in present-day Detroit. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.29 square miles (52.55 km2), of which 19.97 square miles (51.72 km2) is land and 0.32 square miles (0.83 km2) (1.58%) is water.
