According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.9 sq mi (20 km2), of which 0.1 sq mi (0.26 km2), or 0.63%, is covered by water.
According to the 2020 United States census, there were 22,634 people, 7,208 households, and 5,965 families residing in the city. At the 2010 census, 19,935 people were living in the city. The population density was 2,523.4 people/sq mi (977.2/km2). The 7,138 housing units had an average density of 903.5/sq mi (349.9/km2). In 2010, the racial makeup of the city was 84.7% White, 5.7% African American, 0.8% Native American, 2.7% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 3.2% some other race, and 2.9% from two or more races.
