The original settlement was at Keizer Bottom, near the banks of the Willamette River. The community was named after Thomas Dove Keizur, one of its first settlers. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.21 square miles (18.67 km2), of which 7.09 square miles (18.36 km2) is land and 0.12 square miles (0.31 km2) is water.
