In 1870, Lake Grove established its first post office, which carried the mail to and from Lakeland station (discontinued in 1883) by horse and wagon. Why is it called Lake George, NY?
The lake was finally named “Lake George” by Sir William Johnson in 1755 for his King, George II of England.
