Mission Viejo is a commuter city in the Saddleback Valley in Orange County, California, United States. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 18.1 square miles (47 km2), 17.7 square miles (46 km2) of which is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2) (2.12%) is water. Mission Viejo is located 49 mi (79 km) southeast of Los Angeles, and 73 mi (117 km) northwest of San Diego.
