According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 15.9 square miles (41.2 km2), of which 15.3 square miles (39.6 km2) are land and 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2) are water. Fort Lewis' terrain is primarily a mixture of dense conifer woods and open Puget prairie-Garry oak woodlands. Invasive Scotch Broom has taken over many areas.
