North Little Rock, AR
North Little Rock (often dubbed as "NLR") is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. It is the twin city of Little Rock.
The city has been experiencing significant beautification efforts over the past few years, resulting in renewed interest from young families and professionals. Areas such as the Argenta Historic District Downtown have turned into thriving entertainment districts offering theaters, fine dining, bars, gastropubs, and boutiques. It is also home to Dickey-Stephens Park, which hosts the Arkansas Travelers minor league baseball team, and Simmons Bank Arena, the metropolitan area's main entertainment venue. Farther west is Burns Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the United States.
Originally named Argenta, Arkansas, it was founded on April 18, 1871. In 1890, the city of Little Rock annexed Argenta as part of its eighth ward, preempting a competing petition to incorporate. As part of a plan to reclaim its independence, Argenta was incorporated on July 17, 1901, as the town of "North Little Rock". By 1904, the state's supreme court allowed North Little Rock to annex what was left of the ward. It adopted the name Argenta in 1906, only to revert to North Little Rock in October 1917. Evidence of the old town can still be found in the North Little Rock City Hall (built in 1914) which contains plaques referring to Argenta and incorporates "C of A" (i.e. City of Argenta) ornamental features.
The city's economy is diverse, with major industries including transportation, healthcare, education, and retail, contributing significantly to its growth and development.
The city places a strong emphasis on health and wellness, with several healthcare facilities catering to the well-being of its residents. One notable institution is the North Metro Medical Center, providing comprehensive healthcare services and contributing to the overall health infrastructure of the region. The College Community Center offers a range of wellness programs and activities for residents of all ages, including fitness classes, health screenings, and nutrition workshops. It serves as a hub for promoting physical activity and healthy living within the community. Additionally, College Parks and Recreation manages several parks, trails, and recreational facilities throughout the city, providing opportunities for outdoor exercise, sports leagues, and family-friendly activities. Residents can enjoy amenities such as playgrounds, sports fields, and picnic areas while connecting with nature and staying active.

Annexed by the city of Little Rock in 1890, Argenta was separately incorporated as a town in 1901 and renamed North Little Rock. It became a city in 1904 and absorbed the town of Levy to the north in 1946. In a significant development in 1946, North Little Rock absorbed the neighboring town of Levy to the north, consolidating its territorial boundaries and expanding its jurisdiction. This merger further strengthened North Little Rock's position as a major municipality and facilitated coordinated development efforts to enhance the quality of life for its residents.

Argenta. North Little Rock has been a town of many names. According to Ernie Deane's Arkansas Place Names, the town has been referred to in the past as DeCantillon, Hunterville, Barling Cross, and Argenta but in 1917, the community officially adopted its current name. However, in 1917, the town officially adopted its current name, North Little Rock, a decision that likely aimed to establish a clearer identity and connection to its larger neighbor, Little Rock, while also distinguishing itself as a separate and independent municipality.
