This is because your brain releases feel-good chemicals and pain diminishes. The therapist’s touch causes an immediate reaction in your brain. As soon as your skin’s nerve cells feel pressure, they signal the brain to release feel-good chemicals called endorphins, which boost your mood and give you a natural high. As a result, stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline begin to decrease and the overall effect is one of euphoria and bliss.

Actually, you can get massaged too frequently. Once a week is the most you should go unless you are dealing with pain or high-intensity sports. Between you and your therapist, you’ll be able to determine the best frequency because your body’s response is a large part of this determination.

You should go at least once per month, but as often as twice per week in severe pain situations. For example, if you live a stressful and hectic life, then the benefits won’t last long as compared to someone who lives a relatively stress-free life.

On average, the benefits of massage can last up to a month or as little as 1 day. On average, most people notice the benefits for about a week. This is one of the reasons it’s recommended that you get a massage on a regular basis.

If you are trying to treat a medical condition through massage, then regular massage can go a long way. A study revealed that for patients with osteoarthritis, regular massages can not only reduce pain but also aid in its treatment.

Differences Between a Classic Massage and Private Massage

The difference between the private massage and the classic massage which is the control of the environment. Here are the main differences:

1. Price

The price can vary greatly between a massage salon and a private massage performed directly in your home. The masseuse who comes to your home includes travel expenses in their rates, which a salon obviously does not charge you.  The private masseuse will only be able to see a limited number of clients, which will be reflected in the price. The price remains consistent with the service that is offered. A private massage allows a little more freedom than a massage in a salon or institute. Your requests can be more precise, whether it is for a foot massage or even a happy ending massage.

2. Time of massage

Salons offer massage slots that can be adaptable, even if they are different time allotments. If you have an unforeseen event or a special request, it might not be taken into account. Massage times can also vary between a classic massage and a private massage. In the salons, the duration of a table massage is generally between one hour and one hour and a half, depending on the time slots and masseuses available. You must take into account the preparation time, which can be as little as ten minutes. On the other hand, most private masseurs offer 60 or 90 minute table top sessions. Benefits of Massage

One of the immediate benefits of massage is a feeling of deep relaxation and calm. This occurs because massage prompts the release of endorphins – the brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) that produce feelings of well-being.

Levels of stress hormones, such as adrenalin, cortisol, and norepinephrine, are also reduced. Studies indicate that high levels of stress hormones impair the immune system.

Contraindication for Massage

Some conditions are contraindicated locally. That means that the massage therapist can give you a massage but must avoid those areas with those conditions when giving you the massage. Here is a list of common contraindications:

- Cuts or open wounds

- Bruises

- Varicose veins

- Broken bones

- Burns

- Some skin conditions

If you have these massage contraindications and you want a massage you should let your therapist know about them. Hopefully, the massage therapist can work around these areas. However, if they prove too severe massage may not be appropriate. In that case, the therapist reserves the right to refuse treatment to ensure the maintenance of health standards.

Other massage contraindications are more specific. You cannot get a massage if you have these conditions because massage could cause these conditions to flare up making your problem worse. Here are the conditions that fall into these categories;

Fever

Anytime you have a fever, whether from a cold, the flu, or some other infection, you should not get a massage. Massage increases circulation which may in turn help the infection increase the severity of the fever and the infection.

Contagious Diseases

If you have a contagious disease you are putting your therapist and even your therapist’s other clients at risk of getting it. Please be considerate to your therapist and cancel your massage if you come down with a contagious condition.

Blood Clots

Massage can loosen blood clots. This could be dangerous because the clot could migrate to the brain, lungs, or heart. If you are aware of any blood clots, consult your doctor before massage to make sure that it will not be affected by massage therapy.

Pregnancy

Unless a therapist has been trained in prenatal massage, pregnant shouldn’t women should not have massage treatment. It’s especially risky in the first 3 months of pregnancy. Kidney Conditions or Liver Conditions

Massage can put increased strain on both the liver and kidney if they are not functioning normally. This occurs because massage increases blood flow, increasing the movement of waste through the body. If you are experiencing a health problem with either your kidney or liver it is likely that massage will not be appropriate for you. Talk to a health care professional to see if massage will aggravate any kidney or liver condition.

Cancer

Though massage is good at relieving some of the discomfort caused by cancer, it should only be given by someone trained to work with cancer patients. The patient should obtain a release form from his/her doctor to get treatment.

Inflammation

If you have inflammation of any kind massage to the area will further aggravate the situation.

Uncontrolled Hypertension

Massage increases blood flow. If you have high blood pressure that is not under control, the increased blood flow that is a result of massage therapy may cause problems.

What Not to Do After a Massage Therapy

Here is a checklist of the things you should not do after getting massage therapy. Doing these things after a massage cannot prevent you from getting the maximum benefits from massage therapy. We have listed ten (10) things that you should not do after a massage.

1. Not Drinking Enough Water
