FAQs

What is Gaffney, SC famous for?

Known for its peach farming, Gaffney is home to an annual peach festival and the famous “Peachoid” water tower. Beyond its rich farming history, Gaffney and Cherokee County boast a diverse food scene that includes all the classic cuisines and more. From established taco joints like El Michoacan, affectionately referred to as the silver taco by locals, and Bronco’s to dessert hotspots like Sunny’s Donuts to local staples like Daddy.

Why is there a giant peach in Gaffney, SC?

The Peachoid is a 135-foot (41 m) tall water tower in Gaffney, South Carolina, U.S., that resembles a peach. The shape of the peach was selected because the Gaffney economy was then dependent upon peach orchards and because the people of the town wanted to make clear that South Carolina, and at one time, Cherokee County alone, where Gaffney is located, produced more peaches per year than the entire state of Georgia (known as the "Peach State"). Since its construction, the Peachoid's extremely high visibility has introduced an element of tourism to the local economy, and a smaller (500,000 U.S. gallons, 1.9 million liters) peachoid has been built for Clanton, Alabama by the same company.

What is the crime rate in Gaffney, SC?

With a crime rate of 45 per one thousand residents, Gaffney has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 22. Within South Carolina, more than 81% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Gaffney.
