Syracuse is a city in, and the county seat of, Onondaga County, New York, United States. With a population of 148,620 and a metropolitan area of 662,057, it is the fifth-most populated city and 13th-most populated municipality in the state of New York.

Syracuse is located at 43°2′49″N 76°8′40″W (43.046899, −76.144423).[18] It is located about 87 miles (140 km) east of Rochester, 150 miles (240 km) east of Buffalo, and 145 miles (230 km) west of the state capital, Albany. It is also the halfway point between New York City and Toronto, about 245 miles (390 km) from each, Toronto to the northwest and NYC to the southeast.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 66 square kilometers (25.6 square miles), of which 65 square kilometers (25.1 square miles) is land and 1.6 square kilometers (0.6 square miles) (2.15%) water.
