Mount Airy is a city within Surry County, in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As the westward expansion progressed following the French and Indian War, Mount Airy started to develop, serving as a stagecoach stop on the road connecting Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Galax, Virginia.
