Old Jamestown, MO
Old Jamestown is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 19,184 at the 2010 census. Old Jamestown is northwest of the city of St. Louis and borders the Missouri River.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 14.9 square miles (38.7 km2), of which 0.008 square miles (0.02 km2), or 0.06%, is water. The community is located mostly to the north and west of U.S. Route 67 in northern St. Louis County. West Alton is to the north, across the Missouri River. Florissant is to the southwest, and Black Jack and Spanish Lake are to the south. The CDP is located 17 miles (27 km) north of downtown St. Louis.
St. Louis County is located in the eastern-central portion of Missouri. It is bounded by the City of St. Louis and the Mississippi River to the east, the Missouri River to the north, and the Meramec River to the south. At the 2020 census, the total population was 1,004,125,[1] making it the most populous county in Missouri. Its county seat is Clayton.[2] The county is included in the St. Louis, MO-IL metropolitan statistical area.
After Great Britain took over the former French territory east of the Mississippi River, many ethnic French colonists moved west. They settled in the area of St. Louis County and founded the city of St. Louis in the late 1700s. The US acquired this territory in 1803 with the Louisiana Purchase.
In 1877 residents of the City of St. Louis voted to separate from the county and become an independent city. In the 1960s, with the growing suburban development of Greater St. Louis, the county's population overtook that of the city for the first time. Restructuring of industry resulted in job and population declines in the city, and the county has continued to expand.
