What is Moody, AL known for?

Moody is home to the state's first Miracle League ball field which is located in our state-of-the-art park and recreation facility. Who founded Moody, AL?

The first home in what is now Moody was constructed in 1820 by Epps Moody, who had moved there from North Carolina and for whom the town is named. Other North Carolina acquaintances of Moody's soon followed him to Alabama. The town originally was called Moody’s Crossroads because it grew along two roads that intersect there. During the Civil War, most Moody residents were pro-Union as none of them owned any enslaved people, and several of the men were drafted into the Confederate Army against their will.

 

Who owns the landfill in Moody, AL?

The landfill was initially licensed to Scott Russell through NDL Inc., which was incorporated in 2007, and later by Environmental Landfill Inc., on property owned by the Scott Russell Management Trust. Under its permit, the landfill accepted only plant matter and storm debris, and therefore its regular operations were not regulated by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) unless there was a public complaint lodged. The fire was reported on the morning of Friday, November 25, 2022, and was believed to have involved an area of approximately 25 acres and up to 100 feet thick.
