FAQs:
What Does Manifestation Mean?
There are many different definitions of the word manifest, but the simplest would be that a manifestation is ‘something that is put into your physical reality through thought, feelings, and beliefs. This means that whatever you focus on is what you are bringing into your reality. You may focus and manifest through meditation, visualization, or just via your conscious or subconscious. Manifesting is the practice of focusing your energy and intention to create your own reality. It’s a powerful tool that can help you get to the place you want to be in life, both emotionally and physically.
How Does Manifestation Work?
Like with the Law of Attraction, a manifestation is where your thoughts and your energy can create your reality. If you are constantly being negative and feeling down, then you are going to attract and manifest negative energy. The first thing to do when manifesting is to look at your thoughts and feelings. Are you feeling negative? Do your thoughts surround negativity? If so, you could begin to manifest things you don’t want in your reality. This is why it’s important to clear your mind and have a positive mind when you want to manifest. Manifestation doesn’t just work with your thoughts, there has to be a form of action on your part. This could be actually applying for the jobs that suit what you are looking for and going to the interviews. Trying to visualize your thoughts and feelings about your job; will then help you to feel more positive and motivated to make these changes a reality. This will then push you to take some action and, ultimately, manifest your goals into your life.
What is the Science Behind Manifestation?
There actually is a fair amount of science behind the idea of manifestation. For example, the research on growth mindset driven by Dr. Carol Dweck clearly shows that believing you can do something makes it more likely that you actually will do that thing. An example might be that you really believe you can get your dream job of being a therapist. So you work hard to get into a good school, work hard while in school, and create a successful therapy practice that brings you great joy.
It's important to note, though, that this is different from the popular manifesting guides that suggest that believing in something creates it. This science-based approach instead shows us that if we truly believe we can achieve something, we are willing to put in the work to achieve it. And that is key: manifestation takes work. To manifest what we want, we need to believe we can do it, feel strongly enough about it to be persistent, and ultimately engage in the behaviors that bring about the outcomes we desire.
There is also research showing that whatever our expectations are, they tend to be confirmed. This is what is known as a self-fulfilling prophecy. Research has also shown that a negative mood or attitude puts others off, hurting our relationships. This is how our pessimistic attitude actually leads to the exact outcomes we expect. In contrast, people who are generally happy and positive attract more opportunities, have better relationships, and are usually more successful.
Why is Manifestation Important?
The point of manifestation is to bring your desires into reality. By focusing on what you want, you can attract it into your life. It is important to be grateful for what you have, as this will help to attract more of what you desire. Manifestation works by aligning your thoughts and feelings with your desired outcome. When you do this, you are sending out a powerful signal to the Universe that attracts your desired result. The more focused and clear you are about what you want, the more likely it is to manifest. So, if the manifestation is so important, why isn’t everyone doing it? The answer lies in our beliefs. Most people have been taught that they can’t have what they want, that they need to work hard for it, and that it’s not possible to just have things appear in their lives. This is simply not true. Manifestation is a natural law, and if you tap into it, you can achieve anything you desire. All it takes is some practice and belief in yourself.
Is Manifestation Real?
There’s no scientific evidence that manifestation automatically makes dreams come true, but some research suggests positive mindsets have equally positive outcomes. One study found imagining a hypothetical event will land you with a better action plan for how to make the event actually happen. The concept of a growth mindset says that individuals who believe their talents can grow tend to achieve more than those who don’t.
Certainly, the thought-to-action aspects of manifestation hold some ground. Some scientists have referenced manifestation’s close alignment with cognitive behavioral therapy, which is modifying unhelpful ways of thinking and behavior to cope with and prevent further psychological problems.
And yet, the “magic” of manifesting that has come into popular culture is not necessarily what many manifestation coaches actually believe. “It's not about bringing like that one thing or that one amount of money into your life. It's about being a different version of yourself. It doesn't come from thin air it comes from the actions that you take based on the energy that you're in.
Is Manifestation Bad or Good?
There’s nothing wrong with having a positive attitude and strong personal beliefs about what you want in life. But social media has taken the concept of positive manifestation to extremes, from the general to the super specific. You can find hundreds of videos on other manifesting techniques, as well as particular affirmations that will supposedly make your dreams come true. On TikTok, teen girls practice a kind of manifestation called “scripting,” which involves writing down a wish again and again—for example, for a crush to finally text them back.
But is manifestation helping or hurting young people? It’s true that positive thinking can help young adults feel more empowered and optimistic. However, the concept of manifesting change through positive thoughts also has a troubling side. If good things don’t happen to us despite our attempts to manifest them, does that mean our thoughts are “wrong”? What if we have scary thoughts and sometimes focus on the worst possible outcome? Does that mean we’re making bad stuff come true?
Is Manifesting Dangerous?
There can be too much of a good thing. Some research suggests the practice could be harmful to those with anxiety or obsessive-compulsive disorders or who may be actively working toward unlearning harmful “thought equals reality” triggers what manifestation holds at its core. You have to know yourself well enough and your mental health to understand where you are going to take your practice of manifesting. If it is something that you end up being obsessive over and ends up really impeding your life, please take a step back and find a way that really works for you.
Is Manifestation a Sin?
Manifestation is not wrong or sinful if your intentions are good. It’s a way to focus on gratitude, improve your circumstances, help others, and build confidence in yourself and your abilities. As long as you manifest in good faith and you’re willing to work for what you want, good things will come your way. Manifestation on its own is not a sin, but it can be a conduit for one. If you’re manifesting something that will hurt yourself or others and your motivation is selfish, then it’s a sin. If you want to manifest something that’s helpful to others and doesn’t hurt anyone, then it’s not a sin.
What Role Do Mindset and Positive Thinking Play in Manifestation?
Mindset and positive thinking play a crucial role in manifestation. By focusing on positive thoughts and beliefs, you can create a strong intention and attract positive energy and opportunities into your life. On the other hand, negative thoughts and beliefs can create resistance and block your ability to manifest your desired outcome. Therefore, it’s important to cultivate a positive and confident mindset to support your manifestation efforts.
Can Manifestation be Used to Manifest Positive Changes in the World or in Other People's Lives?
Manifestation can be used to bring positive changes not only into your own life but also into the world and the lives of others. By setting clear and positive intentions, and focusing on what you want to create or contribute, you can use the power of manifestation to bring about positive changes in the world. This could include things like creating a more peaceful and compassionate society or supporting environmental conservation efforts.
Common Misconceptions about Manifestation
Here are some misconceptions about manifestation that we should know:
1. Thoughts are the only requirement.
Manifestation and the law of attraction certainly have their appeal. After all, it sounds like a pretty good deal to simply "think" things into existence. But unfortunately, it's never that easy. Manifesting isn't about deluding or deceiving yourself. While changing your thinking is a powerful tool for drawing what you want into your life, it is not a replacement for taking the actions necessary to accomplish and attain those very things. Nor should you blame yourself and your misguided thinking if, despite your best efforts, you cannot manifest what you want via the law of attraction.
2. The law of attraction is foolproof.
If manifesting were that easy, everyone would be doing it with roaring success—but alas, that is not the case. And in fact, there are a lot of reasons why someone can struggle with manifesting. if you ask the universe for something that isn't for the highest good of everyone involved, the universe is unlikely to grant your request. Further, if you aren't specific in what you're asking for, or don't really have a good idea of what it will look or feel like, it will be more challenging to bring it into reality. To that end, it's also important to really believe you can have (and deserve) what you asked for. If your conscious mind is saying one thing, but your unconscious mind is saying the opposite, that's a common problem that gets in the way of manifesting.
3. What you want will show up exactly how you imagined it.
One last misconception about manifesting is that what you asked for will show up exactly as you imagine it. This isn't always the case. Sometimes, we aren't able to receive something when the universe tries to give it to us because we're too fixed on an idea of exactly how it should manifest. Manifestation requires being open to unconsidered synchronicities and possibilities.
How the Law of Attraction Works
The law of attraction is one of the 12 universal laws, which focuses on shifting your thoughts and mindset to the point that the shift ripples out into the life you live. According to the law of attraction, by changing your thoughts, you can change what shows up in your life.
And this law is actually backed by many psychological theories, such as Aaron Beck, M.D.'s cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)1 model. In CBT, you work with a therapist to change your thought patterns, which in turn changes your feelings and behaviors, and thus, you change your life.
A good way to remember this is the phrase, Thoughts become things. Every action, behavior, and choice is predicated by thought, so when your thoughts begin to align with a more positive vibration and state of being, you're better equipped to make choices that align with what you're looking to manifest.
Skills that can Contribute to Effective Manifestation
Here are some other skills that can contribute to effective manifestation:
1. Eagerness. The desire to try new things and take on new challenges.
2. Initiative. The urge to act and start moving towards your goals.
3. Intrinsic motivation. The desire to accomplish something “just because” rather than for external rewards like money or prestige.
4. A desire for self-improvement. The need to keep getting better and improving your life.
5. Passion. Enjoy the activities that lead to your goals.
6. Commitment to your goals. The persistence to stick to your goals over the long term.
7. Believing in yourself. The belief that you have the ability to make your dreams come true.
8. Resilience. The ability to keep going in spite of difficulties.
Reasons Why You Need to Manifest
There are numerous reasons why you should start practicing manifestation techniques, which help you achieve your goals and also help improve your mental health.
Practicing manifestation:
1. Makes you more optimistic
The basic definition of optimism is looking at the bright side. By practicing manifestation, you look at the positive and bright end of things instead of the dark side. You start focusing on the positive result and stop thinking about the negative impacts.
2. Reduces stress
When you stop worrying about failure and start working on yourself for success, it helps in reducing your stress and makes you happy in life.
3. Makes you more grateful.
Some manifestation techniques, such as scripting, and others involve writing. They encourage you to write positive thoughts and help you focus on the good in your life instead of the bad, make you more grateful for your existing life, and help create a positive mindset.
4. Makes you self-confident
The basic concept of manifestation is to have faith that you will achieve your goal. When you start having faith in yourself and the process, this simple faith helps you a long way by boosting your confidence and removing the fear of failure within you.
Mental health awareness is an important concept for everyone, and these benefits mentioned above have a common end result: to make you more positive in your life. This newfound positivity helps you in developing your mental health. As mentioned, manifestation reduces stress which thereby helps in improving anxiety and other mental illnesses. Similarly, becoming more grateful can help improve your depression and lead a happy life!
Top Manifestation Techniques
There are many different methods that can help you on your manifestation journey to make your dream life and deepest desires come true.
1. The Law of Attraction

Therefore, when you focus on positive thoughts and positive things you want to attract into your life, the universe will respond by bringing more of those good things into your reality.
2. Visualization
Visualization is another powerful manifestation technique. It involves picturing yourself achieving your goals and manifesting your desires. This helps to program your subconscious mind to attract what you want and makes it more likely to happen. The use of a vision board or dream board can be helpful with visualization. It allows you to see your goals and desires every day, which keeps them at the forefront of your mind.
3. Positive Affirmations

This manifestation practice is most effective when you continually do it on consecutive days and nights so that your subconscious mind gets used to hearing the positive statements and starts to believe them.

5 Ways How to Manifest Anything
When you read about the Law of Attraction, it can sometimes feel like it will take months or years to manifest anything you desire. However, experts advise that if you carefully work your way through four distinct manifestation steps, it’s possible to get results a lot more quickly. In fact, if you are wondering how to manifest anything in simply 24 hours, you may only need 5 steps.
Step 1: Choose What You Want To Manifest
When you decide on something specific to manifest, it’s vital that you know exactly why you want this specific thing in your life. And when you’re trying to manifest something in just 24 hours, you also have to pick something you believe you can manifest in a day.
Step 2: Get Rid Of Things That Stand In Your Way
Unfortunately, almost always there will be something standing in your way to success. This shouldn't scare you, this is just part of the whole manifestation process. Keep an eye out for these three most common manifestation blocks:
- Negative Core Beliefs
If you are in a bad place emotionally, you need to first get yourself into the right mindset before you can successfully manifest anything. You can't be focusing on negativity and expect to attract good things into your life. So take some time to practice self-care. Try meditation and different stress-relief techniques.
- Toxic People
When you are working on manifesting your dream you need to make sure no one is holding you back. People who don't believe in you, always criticize you, and/or complain about everything are blocks that will keep you from doing your best.
- Timing
Sometimes you just need to be patient. Everything you want will happen. but it will happen at the right time and for the right reasons. So if something isn't happening for you right now, it doesn't mean it never will. Keep believing and keep working on your goal.
Step 3: Visualize What You Want To Manifest
You probably already know the basics of visualization and have at least tried to practice those techniques a couple of times. On your current manifestation quest, start by going somewhere that’s quiet and private, and spend just a minute visualizing the thing you want. Pour all your energy and concentration into seeing it with your mind’s eye, and let all the good feelings about the object or outcome well up inside you. This step works best if you do a multi-sensory visualization; if you can see, hear, smell, touch, and (if relevant) taste the outcome you’re looking to create. Make it as real as you possibly can, so it’s almost like it’s yours already. Add as many details as you can, and don’t try to imagine exactly how the thing or outcome becomes yours; instead, focus solely on the end result of receiving what you desire. Don’t think about how your desired object or outcome will manifest and don’t try to see it coming to you through any particular person or means. Your focus should be on the end result of receiving the thing of your desire.
Step 4: Take Action To Manifest What You Want
You can spend the rest of your day pretty much living as you normally would; there isn’t any particular action you need to take in order to make manifestation possible (your intentions are what will determine your success). Rather, once you’ve finished steps 1-2 as described above, you are just waiting for what you want to appear. However, if you feel the urge to do something specific; whether it immediately makes sense or it’s more of an intuition-based yearning. Then consider following your gut and taking that action. If it feels natural, do it! If you find that you don’t get the outcome you want within 24 hours or less, look back at the first two steps and go back through them. Sometimes, writing down what you want (and some of the answers to the specific questions posed) can give the universe the extra nudge it needs to fuel your manifestation. There are some common reasons why you might not be manifesting quickly. In particular, consider whether you’re doubting the process; do you either not believe you’ll get what you ask for because you don’t think you deserve it, or perhaps doubt whether it’s possible to manifest using the Law of Attraction? Any kind of negative feelings (e.g. anxiety, worry, anger, and doubt) or negative beliefs can inhibit your results.
Step 5: Recognize And Appreciate
Although this final step might not look that significant at first glance, it can actually do a lot to shape your manifestation potential in the future. Basically, the key thought here is that you need to fully appreciate what you have once you achieve your goal. It can be easy to forget that you asked for what you received, so take proactive steps to prevent this. Go back to what you first thought and felt when you were visualizing your desired object or outcome, and connect those experiences with the new experience of having what you want. Consider the tangible proof you have that thoughts are things and that thinking in a certain way can create concrete changes in the world around you. The more you make this connection and emphasize it, the better you’ll be at manifesting in the future (as you’ll replace negative, limiting beliefs and doubts with confident, positive thoughts and feelings).
Signs Your Manifestation is Close
When you are trying to manifest something into your life, there are many signs that you should be looking out for in order to know that your manifestation is close. Some will be small signs, and others might be staring you right in the face, without you knowing.
Here are some of the signs that may come to you when your manifestation is close:
1. Hearing about your desires. This could be overhearing someone’s conversation or listening to the radio, where they are talking about the very thing that you want.
2. Feeling excited. If you start to develop a sense of excitement despite there not being a reason, this could be a sign that your manifestation is close.
3. You see repeating numbers. Repeating numbers have important meanings and these are a good sign that your manifestation is close. Pay attention to the numbers you see.
4. Other people talking about your goals. The people in your life might bring up your goals in conversation, telling you that you would be good at something (even if they are unaware that this is your goal).
These are just a few signs to show that your manifestation is close to being in your reality. Make sure to keep note of the signs you are seeing and feel excited that your manifestations are close.
Why Manifestation is Not Working For You
Do you need some extra help with your Law of Attraction journey? Maybe you feel that there is something that’s holding you back. There is no denying that manifestation is an incredibly powerful tool when it comes to improving our lives, but as with anything, it takes practice and dedication to get the best results. If you are struggling to make a change, try to not become discouraged. There are numerous techniques and exercises out there, so experiment and find out what works best for you. Ultimately, manifestation is a process, but it’s one that can lead to remarkable changes in your life. Take your time and be patient with yourself, and you will start to see the amazing things manifesting can do for you.
The Link Between Manifesting and Mental Health Issues
Below are some of the associations between the law of attraction and mental health conditions that can make manifestation bad for well-being.
1. Toxic positivity
Attempting to stay positive all the time and focus only on positive thoughts can invalidate your true feelings, which usually include negative emotions and thoughts as well as positive thinking. Suppressing painful or difficult feelings and thoughts actually leads to an increase in negative thinking, which in turn can exacerbate or catalyze mental health issues.
2. Self-blame
Positive manifestation teaches us that we are entirely in control of what happens in our lives. Therefore, if something bad happens, it must be our fault. This just isn’t true. While personal responsibility is real, we cannot control everything that happens to us. And blaming ourselves for things that don’t work out the way we wanted them to just makes us feel worse. A lack of self-compassion is correlated with poor mental health.
3. Aggravated OCD symptoms
Manifestation and OCD are a particularly bad combination. Studies show that people with OCD are more likely to believe that having negative emotions and negative thoughts will make something negative happen. As a result, they use rituals and compulsive behaviors as ways to ward off these bad things.
4. Believing that our thoughts are the truth
If we think that we’re being judged by others, that no one loves us, or those bad things will always happen to us, the law of attraction tells us that these things are true. This belief can make social anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues worse.
5. A set-up for failure
The law of attraction teaches that we can achieve our desires and dreams without taking concrete and practical steps to get there. This magical thinking sets us up for failure and disappointment and can contribute to poor self-esteem, which is an underlying cause of mental health conditions.
The Difference Between Manifestation and Visualization
The key difference between manifestation and visualization is that manifestation is about bringing things into reality through purposeful thought, action, and intention, whereas visualization is creating mental images to achieve a specific goal or outcome. Generally, manifestation is impossible without visualization since the mind thinks visually, and the law of attraction works via these thoughts. Understanding these two concepts will help you to manifest quickly without any stress and achieve your life goals.
