Service Description

Maybe you knew before you gave birth. Maybe it was a surprise. Either way, you've just given birth to a beautiful baby: a baby who also has a disability. Often disabilities at birth come with more than just the shock of the unexpected. They may include extensive time in the NICU, painful procedures for baby, new medical techniques and care requirements that you were never prepared for in 'What to Expect When You're Expecting': NG Tubes, pulse oximeters, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, and so much more. And then they sent you home. Now you're left wondering "how do I process my child's diagnosis and also connect with them and attach to them in deep, meaningful ways?" "How do I support them and nurture them when I'm feeling anxious, depressed or ungrounded?" That's where newborn disability coaching can come into play. Drawing on almost 18 years' of personal and professional experience as a high risk doula and disability coach (along with being disabled herself and parenting three kids with severe disabilities), Heather will walk you gently and carefully through processing your own complicated feelings and give you the strategies you need to feel comfortable and confident as you care for your child.
